Baby steps to your forever weight was created by a Slender For Life™ hypnosis for weight loss client. One thing that really excites me is to receive emails from clients and feedback in sessions about how they take the Slender For Life™ program and make it their own. I don’t recall that I have ever used the phrase “baby steps,” but just a few weeks ago I posted, “Ask Roger: Can hypnosis help me lose 200 pounds?” In this post I wrote about one step at a time and about three-foot tosses. In the first hypnosis for weight loss session, I urge people to focus on one to two pounds per week, not the total amount of weight that they have to lose. One to two pounds is 2 to 4 ounces per day. That is very doable. Focusing on the total amount you have to lose can be very daunting.
Maintaining your weight when going on a vacation or an out-of-town business trip – where you are often eating meals in restaurants – can be an incredibly important baby step. Before Slender For Life™ weight loss hypnosis, vacations for me were opportunities for food orgies of eating all the local specialty foods. I easily gained five or more pounds. Learning the baby step of maintenance was valuable for me.
Take a moment right now and reflect on your baby steps for weight loss. Is it one-half pound, one pound or two pounds per week? Achieving your forever weight – your goal weight isn’t a race. Slow and steady progress will help you to achieve your goal, one baby step at a time.
When a baby is learning to walk, they fall down. More importantly, they get right back up and continue on! So when you fall in your weight loss journey, get right back up and continue to your forever weight.

“I have used it to happily move my weight into slimness and feel I can do anything I set my mind to. I plan to write it up and share it freely and widely with others. Its core components:
- Weigh yourself today and visualize/experience being one pound lighter, no more, no less. This taps into what I learned from you. Make that visualization a part of every moment of the day. When you reach that weight, visualize the next pound. No more, no less.
- Your body knows what weight it wants to be. Let it be heard by not setting a goal weight but feeling the truth of that weight when you get there. The only thing that matters today is the next one pound, nothing more, nothing less. I call this your forever weight – whatever weight you can easily maintain the rest of your life. It will be different for everyone. What weight are you happiest at? [Humorous and true story – my doctor asked me how much weight I lost and I literally had no idea. But I could tell her my current weight. All I focused on was the next pound.]
- Do exercise that you truly love doing, that doesn’t feel like great effort and energizes you. Do just a little of it each day and let your desire for more expand the time you exercise. [For me, that is walking and dancing. I walk daily, love it. Before the crazy rains and darkness common in the Pacific Northwest winters, I was walking happily up to five miles a day. I dance in the aisles of stores unabashedly.]
- Eat simple, nutritious foods. Find a meal plan that makes eating healthfully effortless and fun. [For me, I found Splendid Spoon spendidspoon.com and consume a variety of nutrition dense, lower calorie vegan soups every day.]
This all may sounds very familiar to you. But the nuance of baby steps is what made it possible for me. I can do anything, if it is small, attainable, and reasonably easy. My first walk was ½ mile. My first pound took several days. But, with no pressure to reach any particular goal weight, no lofty goals in mind except the very simplest of desires bolstered by doing things I already love (walking, eating delicious soups, breathing in and out my next pound of weight loss), I was able to make a large change in my life without suffering and with easy joy.
You are, of course, welcome to use any of these ideas in your work. My passion is to share this freely and at no cost with as many people as want to hear. If it can work for stubborn me, it will work for anybody.”
