Do you find it hard to exercise? How about stop thinking of it as exercise and think about ways to be more active? What liberties in your life will be available to you if you are more active? I often point out to clients that are out of shape that if they had the opportunity to climb Mount Rainier next week, they could not do it. But, if they are and a healthy body weight and if they are firming, shaping, toning and strengthening their body and increase their cardio health, they could. They may not want to, but then they have the choice. Its sad that most people don’t have the choice. To me, being physically active is all about having more choices and more freedoms in life.

Why Is It So Hard to Exercise?

Get fit! Here are 5 steps to get you motivated to move.

WebMD Feature, January 20, 2012: You know you should do it. And you know why: Exercising — simply put, moving instead of sitting — is critical for safeguarding your health and setting a good example for your kids. So why does it seem so hard to get yourself moving?

The truth is: You can. But knowing how and why to exercise isn’t enough. You need to develop the right mind-set to get and stay motivated.

Change is hard! When we try to start exercising, we think of all the excuses for not doing it and all the things that have gotten in the way before. Getting fit starts to seem overwhelming. And that makes it feel stressful. Before long, we don’t want to do it anymore.

Here are five steps to get you moving in the right direction — and keep you going.

Find Personal Motivation to Exercise: What you need to get you up off the couch is a reason that’s important to you.

Set Realistic Goals to Get Fit: CDC guidelines call for adults to do 2 1/2 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise a week. That’s a 30-minute walk five days a week. If you kick it up a notch — jogging or running, for example – it can be 15 minutes a day, five days a week.

Stop Thinking of It as Exercise — Do Something You Enjoy: You don’t have to go to the gym to get a good workout. It’s all about moving more — however you do it.

Plan How to Fit Exercise Into a Hectic Schedule: For busy parents, a major obstacle to getting fit is lack of time. If you wait for time to open up, chances are you won’t be able to squeeze in a walk or a dance class very often.

Bounce Back From Setbacks: You’ve set a reasonable fitness goal. You’ve prepared for potential problems. Yet somehow you still didn’t make it to the gym today as you had planned. Don’t let that be your downfall.

Knowing how to exercise isn’t just a matter of learning how to use your body to hold a yoga pose or swing a racquet. It also involves learning how to use your mind to propel yourself into action and stick with a fitness routine.
Start thinking of yourself as someone who exercises. Eventually, that will become your identity.

Read Why Is It So Hard to Exercise?

<a href="http://hypnosishealthinfo.com/self-hypnosis/"title="self hypnosis" target="_blank">Self-hypnosis can also get out out of bed or off the couch so that you can increase your activity level. I compare going to the gym like painting walls. I don’t really like painting walls – but I sure like the results! As much as I enjoy seeing my group of friends at the gym in the morning, I don’t really like going to the gym. I sure do love the fact that I can go out right now and get on my bike and go for a 100 mile bike ride. I love that freedom! What are the Mount Rainiers in your life that you’d like to be able to do, but can’t because your aren’t in shape? What if you were? What would you do?

If you have spent much time in my office or read even just a few of my blog posts you know that I am passionate about getting people to move their body and exercise. One motivating reason for me to exercise is spontaneity. Hypnosis can help you be motivated to exercise. Self-hypnosis can get you to the gym or on the walk even when you don’t feel like it. Learn hypnosis and move!

Last Wednesday in spin class we got to talking about the first annual Kiwanis Summer Challenge (a bike ride) here on Bainbridge Island. The Kiwanis altered the Chili Hilly Route and reversed it so that it’s a couple miles longer and different than how most of us ride the island. The even was scheduled for Saturday, August 28. I was interested but was far from committed. I knew that I had to finish staining my decks and that I needed to get ready to leave on vacation so I just wasn’t sure about the time commitment.

By Friday morning I was thinking more seriously about doing it, but not yet committed. Friday night I set the alarm for 5:00 AM with the idea that if I decided to do it, I needed to do it first thing so that I could get everything else done. My first thought when the alarm went off on Saturday was no way! But, I got up and puttered around for about 15 minutes and did self-hypnosis. I then decided that I was in. I cooked my oatmeal and got ready.

The 35 mile bike ride is very hilly and challenging. I stopped once for about 5 minutes in Battle Point Park at the designated rest stop and had the bike mechanic adjust my gears. I completed the 35 miles in just under 2.5 hours. Then it was home to shower and spend the next 6 hours finishing up the work on my decks. Of course one of the first things I did Sunday morning was to go for a 18 mile joy ride on my bike – just for the sheer joy of it!

What I love is that I didn’t have to train or prepare or do anything to participate in this even. I just decided to do it and go. To me, that is what exercise is all about. I have more choices and options available to me.

It would have been really easy to sleep in on a Saturday morning and skip the bike ride. There was a part of me that was excited and that other part that said “stay in bed“. Using hypnosis, it became easy to put to rest that sabotaging chatter and get out and play.

It can be really easy for you to <a href="http://hypnosishealthinfo.com/self-hypnosis/selfhypnosis"title="Light Switch Self-hypnosis" >learn hypnosis and use it to motivate you to exercise and to achieve your goals in life. So, challenge yourself to move. Use hypnosis and get out of bed and off the couch. I am looking forward to next years Summer Challenge.

Why do I exercise? Well, for one reason, the result can bring joy to my heart. A new client said to me the other day that she hated to sweat, she hated to exercise. I do still remember those days. Thanks to hypnosis, I have exercised almost daily for the past 13 years and I love the freedom of choices that exercise has provided me.

Imagine if as a result of exercise you could do some physical activity that you cannot do now. Can you now take the kid or grand kids to Disneyland and walk for 2 or 3 days? Would you like to be physically able to walk around Italy?

I often talk with clients about freedom of choice. If you are obese, climbing Mt. Rainier is not a choice for you. At your ideal weight, climbing Mt. Rainier could be a choice – you still may not want to do the climb, but then it is your choice. Freedom of choice is empowering.

Rev up the treadmill:Women need to exercise at least 1 hour per day to lose weight. Are you sick of diets and weight loss scams? Have you tried all the weight loss diet plans only to lose a little weight and then get stuck and gain it back? Do you hate to exercise and just can’t motivate yourself to show up at the gym or put away the clothes that are hanging on the treadmill? If this sounds like you and yet you are sick of being fat, then call my Seattle weight loss or Bainbridge Island weight loss offices of Slender For Life™ for a free, no-obligation hypnosis for weight loss consultation. My book, Becoming Slender For Life and it’s hypnosis CD set will support you in your exercise and weight loss goals.

Sobering new research spells out just how much exercise women need to keep the flab off as they age — and it’s a lot according to a study in the March 24, 2010, Journal of the American Medical Association. At least an hour of moderate activity a day is needed for older women at a healthy weight who aren’t dieting. For those who are already overweight — and that’s most American women — even more exercise is called for to avoid gaining weight without eating less, the study results suggest.

Brisk walking, leisurely bicycling and golfing are all examples of moderate exercise. But don’t throw in the towel if you can’t do those things for at least an hour a day. Even a little exercise is good for your health even if it won’t make you thin.

The report also points out that you can eat a candy bar in two minutes and that most candy bars are at least 200 calories – to burn that off requires walking for about an hour. Knowing that equation can help people make wise decisions about activity and food choices. Read Older Women Need 1-Hour Workouts To Fend Off Flab.

Chapter 6 of Becoming Slender For Life talks about exercise and about motivating yourself to get off the couch.
In my Bainbridge Island weight loss and Seattle weight loss offices of Slender For Life™ we talk about exercise motivation in almost every hypnosis for weight loss session.

Physically fit students do better academically and hypnosis can be used both for exercise and academics.I love teaching self-hypnosis to students and I love hearing their success stories with academics, sports and physical fitness. If your family is dealing with childhood obesity then consider hypnotherapy. Be sure to also check out the ChiQ for academics, physical fitness and sports performance.

Moms, Dads – you really need to take a look at the ChiQ for your students. It’s a great tool for academics, sports and stress reduction. One client, a high school senior in LA, uses the <a href="http://hypnosishealthinfo.com/chiq"title="ChiQ" target="_blank">ChiQ on the pitchers mound.

Students of most any age can learn self-hypnosis. Sports, academics and physical fitness are ideal for hypnotherapy.
