The coach was concerned that this high school senior might not be getting enough protein. When I asked why he was concerned, he said that he became aware of it when this senior requested a vegan meal at a recent team breakfast at a local restaurant. The coach was concerned that the student needed animal protein. When I asked about this athletes performance, the coach acknowledged that this young man is one of the best players on the team and probably the most physically fit and one of the strongest. The coaches concern was based on his lack of knowledge, not on facts. I provided the coach with some resources for plant-based nutrition. As we talked, the coach acknowledged that he has struggled with his weight for a number of years. We talked and he scheduled a free weight loss consultation. Whether you are spending 5 minutes on the treadmill or are going for a 200 mile bike ride, you can get all the nutrition you need from a plant-based diet.

Here are some excellent resources for active vegetarians:

A vegetarian diet for endurance athletes is really not all that different from a normal (healthy) diet, with the exception, of course, of the meat. If you’re switching from eating McDonald’s every day, then sure, it’s going to take some getting used to. But if you eat lots of nutritious, whole foods as it is, there really aren’t all that many adjustments you need to make to go vegetarian.

When I ran marathons, and now as a distance cyclist, I have learned about how to pay attention to my body and how to adequately keep it fueled. I know that the night before I ride 100 miles or more I need to eat pasta or other carbohydrates. Throughout my ride I eat raisins, bananas, oranges, corn tortillas and new potatoes. I eat small amounts of food frequently. And, I drink lots of water making sure that I am hydrated. (I learned the hard way by hitting the wall because I had not eaten and drank enough).

Of course, hypnosis can help you eat for the best of your abilities and I hope that you are using <a href="http://hypnosishealthinfo.com/sports/"title="Hypnosis for Sports Performance" target="_blank">hypnosis for your sports performance. Self-hypnosis can make the difference for you.

I’m frequently asked questions about vegan body building. I have been vegan and I have lifted weights for the past 15 years. I have completed 5 marathons, ridden my bike over 100 miles in one day, completed the STP (Seattle to Portland Bike Ride of 204 miles), climbed Mount Rainier and went on a 30 mile backpacking trip with my son last September. I have never felt that I was lacking energy or strength. In fact, my younger neighbors shake their heads when they see me go for an early Saturday morning bike ride, come home and haul wood, mow the lawn and do other yard work along with other chores around the house. I’m often asked to slow down so that they don’t look bad. You can eat plant-based food and have a strong, healthy and active body. It’s your choice on just how active you want to be.

Sculptured by Weights and a Strict Vegan Diet

The New York Times, January 4, 2012: As a vegan, Jimi Sitko, 29, does not eat meat, dairy or, he said, “anything else that comes from an animal.” As a bodybuilder, he spends hours at the gym lifting barbells, running on a treadmill and sculpturing his 5-foot-11, 180-pound body. Then he spray-tans and parades before a panel of judges in a posing suit, known in the sport as a mankini. He is preparing for a competition in March.

There is little official data on competitive bodybuilders who are vegan, though the Web site veganbodybuilding.com has more than 5,000 registered users.

Denny Kakos, the president of the International Natural Bodybuilding Association, said he had no vegan bodybuilders entering his competitions in the late 1980s and early ’90s. Today, vegans make up a sliver of the approximately 6,000 people who compete through the group each year, but they have been a steady, small presence since the 2000s, Kakos said.

Hypnosis In Sports

Self-Hypnosis is very important and can be used while actually playing the sport. The client can reinforce suggestions by use of post-hypnotic suggestion with a trigger mechanism. A batter may tap the plate and experience relaxed concentration. A pitcher may touch the bill of his cap and be focused for his next pitch. A golfer can take a deep breath and exhale slowly as he imagines where his next ball goes.

<a href="http://hypnosishealthinfo.com/articles/hypnosis-sports/"title="Hypnosis In Sports" target="_blank">Read Hypnosis In Sports

The use of hypnosis in sports has been around for hundreds of years. In the 1956 Melbourne Olympics the Russian Olympic team took no less than 11 hypnotists to develop mental clarity and help the athletes with visualization. Do you want to improve in your sport? How is your golf or tennis swing? Self-hypnosis can help you be a champion!

As much as I love cycling on Salt Spring Island it is very challenging. Self-hypnosis makes it easier and as a result, more fun. Riding my bike on Salt Spring Island has become a favorite part of my vacation time. This was our fifth visit to Salt Spring and our fourth visit to the Boat House. Each year my bike comes with me and I quickly notice that the hills have not gotten any smaller – nor have the roads improved. I use hypnosis for strength, endurance and safety.

If you are a cyclist, you will want to ride on Salt Spring Island. The scenic beauty is breathtaking and the hills are both challenging and fun. The hills are long and often steep. There is very little that is flat so you are mostly either peddling to go up hill or are flying at high speeds going down. There are few bike lanes and I usually ride just to the left of the white line anyway. The bike lanes are crumbling, or slope down toward the ditch and often have loose gravel – so don’t count on them. I have always found the motorists to be courteous and give at least 3 feet when passing.

Before I start any ride, I take a moment and use self-hypnosis. I visualize riding safely with strength and speed. If I know the route, I picture the entire ride in a few seconds. During the ride I give myself suggestions of strength and endurance. I visualize safely making a curve at a fast speed as I enter the curve. As I climb hills, I picture an steam engine room with coal being shoveled into the firey furnace. My legs are powerful pistons as my feet dance on the pedals with the hypnotic spin of the wheels. I can hear my personal trainer saying, “”You’ve got this, Roger.” My self-talk is “I can do this,” “I got this.”

If you are into sports like cycling, or just enjoy pedaling around the neighborhood – or even going for a walk – <a href="http://hypnosishealthinfo.com/self-hypnosis/selfhypnosis"title="Light Switch Self-hypnosis" target="_blank">learn hypnosis and put it to work for you.

The Chilly Hilly is Sunday, February 28, 2010, and just like many of the Olympian’s, I’m doing my self-hypnosis to prepare. Using hypnotherapy allows me to prepare mentally and emotionally for this ride. Learn hypnosis and improve your performance in sports, work, wellness and life. Find out how at Seattle hypnosis and Bainbridge Island hypnosis.

What’s a Chilly Hilly?! The Chilly Hilly is the annual 33 mile bicycle ride around Bainbridge Island that occurs the last Sunday of February – rain or shine. It’s the Cascade Bicycle Club‘s kick-off to cycling here in the Puget Sound – the beginning of preparing for the STP (Seattle to Portland ride in July which I plan to do) and the RSVP (Ride Seattle to Vancouver and Party which is in August).

The Chilly Hilly is a challenging 33 miles of long and sometimes steep hills that draws over 3000 riders each year. I love to watch the cyclists in all their colorful gear come off the ferry and circle the island. Here on Bainbridge we have few bike lanes and our roads can be rough and narrow which adds to the challenge of an 8% grade.

I must admit that I have never actually ridden in the event even though I ride the route at least once each month. (I have registered previous years, ridden the route in the sun the weekend before only to have it rain the day of the actual event – so I wimp out and stay at home.) My hope for this weekend is to have a dry ride.

If you paid attention during the Olympics you might have noticed that many of the athletes used some form of hypnotherapy for their events. I love watching them visualize at the start of the Half Pipe! That’s how I start out every bike ride, every spin class, every workout at the gym.

I give my self suggestions, I use self-hypnosis and I visualize the outcome. If the ride is about speed, I visualize a fast and safe ride. If it’s about strength and endurance, then I see myself riding up long hills in the saddle (and not in the granny gear).

At Hypnosis Health Info you can learn hypnosis and how to give yourself suggestions to achieve your goals and enhance your performance in life.
