Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic digestive disorder that affects up to 20% of the population. One out of every five people in the general population and one out of three adult women are affected to some degree by IBS. The incidence of IBS among teenagers is skyrocketing. Melissa Roth, PhD, developed this program in 1996 to alleviate her own severe IBS symptoms. Like the majority of clients who have used this program, she remains symptom-free. And after almost fifteen years of worldwide use, 86% of clients have become and remained symptom-free. 94% of clients experience a minimum 50% reduction in symptoms. The symptoms do not return when the sessions end. Unlike other programs, there are no symptoms left for the client to “manage.” It includes anatomy, physiology, medications, conventional treatments, hypnotic theory, nutritional information, and more. Learn this valuable therapy process from the developer herself!

Fibromyalgia, or FMS, is estimated to affect 10% of the general population. As the baby boomer generation ages, those numbers are predicted to rise. Melissa Roth, PhD, developed this course in 1997 to eliminate her own severe FMS symptoms. Like most of the clients who use this program, she remains symptom-free. This package contains everything you need to know to perform this therapy for your clients and get the same levels of results that Melissa gets with her clients. Over 80% of clients become and remain symptom-free after the sessions end. 97% of clients experience a significant reduction in symptoms. For many FMS clients the changes are dramatic, allowing them to return to a higher level of functioning very quickly. It contains anatomy and physiology, conventional tests, information on drugs and their side effects, conventional treatments, hypnotic therapy, nutritional information, client educational information, marketing tips and more.

You will learn:

How to build a thriving practice using medical referrals and addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of Auto-Immune Disorders.

Specific methods for pain control, symptom relief and management of chronic health conditions

Hypnotic methods of treatment that can be used as part of either hypnotherapy or traditional counseling

Strategies that have been demonstrated to improve a client’s level of functioning.Practical Interventions for Healing both the Emotional and the Physical Needs of Clients in Counseling and Hypnotherapy

Fibromyalgia Pain Takes Toll on Everyday Life

Work, Relationships, Parenting Affected by the Chronic Pain Disorder, Survey Shows
WebMD Health News, May 13, 2011: Fibromyalgia affects relationships, parenting duties, and life decisions of people afflicted with the chronic pain disorder, a new survey finds.

Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread muscle tenderness and pain, fatigue, and sleep problems. The cause is unclear, but abnormalities in the way the body responds to and processes pain may play a role. An online survey, completed by 2,559 people diagnosed with fibromyalgia and 459 people with undiagnosed chronic pain conditions, suggests chronic pain causes significant changes in the way people live their lives.

Among key findings:

92% say the condition has had a major effect on life decisions, including whether to remain in a relationship, start a new one, or change jobs. Ninety-five percent of the 650 respondents with children under 18 say their pain affects parenting duties, making it difficult to manage their kids’ schedules and enjoy their kids’ milestones. They also say the illness makes it more difficult to manage the household.

Less specifically, 68% say their pain limits their ability to care for their family.

98% of respondents say they have compensated for or attempted to compensate for their pain by changing their daily routine to make life easier or more bearable.

The three top concerns of the 450 people who said the disorder affected their decision to have children were: 62% worried about caring for a child, 53% wondered about their ability to go through childbirth, and 49% had fears about loss of more sleep after having a baby.

75% had visited a health care provider about their chronic pain because they felt they weren’t able to function at work to their best capacity.

Fibromyalgia (FMS) is a frustrating and little-understood illness. It’s called an illness rather than a disease, because there is no specific diagnostic test that confirms or denies its existence. It’s a collection of confusing symptoms which come and go and vary in intensity. Its chief characteristic is widespread pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as stiffness, fatigue and non-restorative sleep. While it is not life-threatening, it can be as debilitating as rheumatoid arthritis. It is an illness which frustrates physicians as much as it does the people who endure it. Hypnosis for fibromyalgia is proven to provide relief from chronic pain.

I have currently several men that either have a diagnosis of FMS or who have the symptoms of FMS without a medical diagnosis. Both of the men without the fibromyalgia diagnosis tell me that their doctors have acted as if they are crazy. These men feel emasculated and depressed – in addition to the real physical pain that they experience. For over 10 years I have used the fibromyalgia hypnosis protocol developed my Melissa Roth. On a National basis, 94% of both men and women with FMS have experienced a greater than 50% reduction in symptoms.
How Fibromyalgia Affects Men

WebMD Feature April 13, 2011

Fibromyalgia (FMS), is believed to be a neurological disorder that causes chronic pain and fatigue. Of the estimated 5 million adults with fibromyalgia in the U.S., as few as 10% are men. For that reason, the popular perception of it as a women’s disease has persisted, even among fellow patients.

It’s a tough deal for a man to have fibromyalgia. It’s uncertain what causes fibromyalgia or why so few men suffer from it. Certain types of viral infections, traumas such as car accidents, and emotional stress can trigger it. In some cases, though, it strikes without warning.

Whatever the cause, there are certain biological markers that those with the disorder frequently have in common. According to Muhammad B. Yunus, MD, a professor of medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, fibromyalgia is characterized by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. “It is a neurochemical disease,” says Yunus, who points out that people with fibromyalgia show a higher than average amount of substance P, a neurotransmitter that signals pain, and a lower than average amount of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that inhibits pain. Genetics and hormones, says Yunus, also appear to play a role, both in causing the disease and in the gender discrepancy associated with it.

“There are genes that make people more susceptible to pain, and some are related to gender,” he says. “And women are more susceptible to pain because estrogen reduces the pain threshold.” That heightened sensitivity to pain may give women higher odds of getting a diagnosis of fibromyalgia.

Chronic pain may be its chief symptom, but fibromyalgia sometimes comes with additional complications. Chronic fatigue and difficulty sleeping are common complaints, as are headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, and restless legs syndrome. Memory problems and difficulty concentrating often come with the territory as well.

In general, Yunus says, men have fewer symptoms than women. They tend to have less from fatigue and they have pain in fewer places. “It’s much less common for men to hurt all over,” Yunus says. “But in many ways, men are more affected, more bothered by fibromyalgia.”

“Men don’t come to the doctor nearly as much as women,” says Michael J. Pellegrino, MD, a fibromyalgia expert at Ohio Pain and Rehab Specialists and an expert on WebMD’s Fibromyalgia Exchange. “Why? Gender stereotypes.” “Men don’t come to the doctor nearly as much as women. Men tell themselves, ‘I’m not supposed to go to the doctor, I’m not supposed to complain.’ So a lot of the men I see, their wives make them come,” says Pellegrino, who estimates that up to 20% of men with the disorder are undiagnosed. The longer men put off seeing the doctor, the more they put themselves at risk of developing complications that can affect their work, their hobbies, their relationships. Pellegrino, who has fibromyalgia himself, says that depression is not uncommon among men who have delayed getting a diagnosis.

“Men [with fibromyalgia] often feel broken, even suicidal,” says Gavin Levy, an Austin, Texas-based writer who was diagnosed with fibromyalgia four years ago, at age 33. “We’ve all been there. It feels like your masculinity has been taken away to a degree. You are a provider and protector, then suddenly that role is reversed.” The most important thing a man with fibromyalgia can do, Pellegrino emphasizes, is to get diagnosed. The sooner that happens, the sooner he can start treatment.

“There is a clear relationship between overweight and pain and fatigue. Overweight is a risk factor for fibromyalgia,” Yunus says. A recent study linked obesity and a greater chance of having fibromyalgia. That does not mean that everyone with fibromyalgia is overweight, or that extra pounds, by themselves, cause fibromyalgia.

Read How Fibromyalgia Affects Men

Traditional fibromyalgia treatments aim at improving the quality of sleep and reducing pain. Recent research confirms that a multi-disciplinary approach to treating FMS provides the greatest relief from symptoms and the best prognosis. This approach includes improving the quality of sleep, proper nutrition, physical conditioning, deep relaxation and positive mental imagery. No one modality has proven effective more than 40% of the time. However, by combining therapies, the patient can frequently return to a healthier state and a more active lifestyle.

<a href="http://hypnosishealthinfo.com/articles/fms"title="FMS" target="_blank">Read FMS by Melissa Roth

The program for FMS symptom alleviation that I use is non-invasive hypnosis and is designed to be used in conjunction with your physician’s treatment regime. It is a multi-session program which focuses on easing pain, boosting energy levels, restoring sleep without drugs, releasing anxiety and tension, improving concentration and alleviating other troublesome symptoms.

Exercise to Boost Fibromyalgia Treatment

WebMD, January 18, 2011: Fibromyalgia specialists often recommend exercise as a way to help improve fibromyalgia symptoms. But what happens if you don’t like to exercise? Or when exercise only seems to bring on more pain and no relief from fibromyalgia symptoms? This is the case for one member of WebMD’s fibromyalgia community. She says that she feels really sore after movement and just wants to sleep. “Everything I read says I MUST exercise, and I just do not feel like it. So, any ideas?”

If you are suffering with fibromyalgia, hypnosis can help you overcome this illness.
Remember, The best exercise is the one that a person can stick with and one that doesn’t significantly worsen their symptoms. The main thing is for people with fibromyalgia to try to do something physical just about every day. …. from <a href="http://hypnosishealthinfo.com/fybromyalgia-and-exercise"title="Fibromyalgia and Exercise" target="_blank">Fibromyalgia and Exercise

Melissa Roth’s article FMS Fibromyalgia is this weeks featured article in the Hypnosis Health Info Article Library. FMS is particularly frustrating because the sufferer appears healthy and normal on the outside but feels miserable on the inside. Traditional treatments aim at improving the quality of sleep and reducing pain using a cocktail of medications. Unfortunately, the side effects of the medications can be as debilitating as the illness. With hypnosis, over 96% of FMS patients have shown significant and lasting improvement in their overall symptoms, especially in the areas of pain reduction, improved sleep patterns and increased energy levels. In my Seattle hypnosis and Bainbridge Island hypnosis offices I have used Melissa Roth’s FMS protocol with clients for over 10 years with success.

FMS Fibromyalgia by Melissa Roth

Recent research confirms that a multi-disciplinary approach which includes cogitative behavioral therapies, such as hypnosis, provides the greatest relief from symptoms and the best prognosis for a return to more normal levels of functioning. This approach includes improving the quality of sleep, proper nutrition, physical conditioning and deep relaxation combined with positive mental imagery (techniques used in hypnotherapy). By combining therapies, the patient can frequently return to a healthier state and a more active lifestyle while lessening or, in some instances, eliminating the need for medications, especially pain medications. My clients have averaged a 46% reduction in pain medication usage.

I first became interested in fibromyalgia when I realized that many Slender For Life™ clients suffered with FMS. I frequently use Melissa Roth’s FMS protocol with hypnosis weight loss clients. Self-hypnosis can help you create health and wellness and improve your quality of life.
