So, why wouldn’t McDonald’s and Subway offer the same food here? It only makes health sense that they would do that. If you have followed my posts, you know that I am passionate about healthcare reform and that I believe that I believe each of us must take personal responsibility for reforming our own health care. I am also a big believer in voting with your wallet. In other words, stop buying foods that make you fat and make you sick. Hypnosis can help you change your lifestyle so that you desire food that feed your health.

Fast Foods Saltier in U.S. Than Overseas?

Study: Foods in U.S. and Canada Tend to Have More Salt

WebMD Health News, April 16, 2012: Your helping of McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets in the U.S. comes with something extra you won’t find in the same nuggets overseas: a lot more salt.

A new study finds that there is a wide range in the salt content of the same fast foods sold in different countries. Food in the U.S. and Canada generally contain more salt than food in the U.K. and France. Researchers say the finding suggests that technical issues often cited by fast food franchises as barriers to reducing salt in their products may not be a major issue.

The American Heart Association recommends eating less than 1,500 mg of sodium daily to help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Eating1,500 mg of sodium is the equivalent of slightly more than half a teaspoon of table salt. Yet the average daily intake for most Americans is more than twice this limit, according to the CDC.

Most of the sodium we eat — about 80% the CDC says — is not poured from a saltshaker, but is found in processed and restaurant foods. Because of this, reducing salt in these foods is a crucial step to lowering individual and overall salt consumption.

According to nutritional information provided by the companies:

McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets in the U.S. and Canada contain almost three times as much salt per serving as those in the United Kingdom (600 milligrams in a 3.5-ounce serving in the U.K., and 1,500 milligrams and 1,700 milligrams in the U.S. and Canada, respectively).

A Subway club sandwich in the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand contained about twice as much sodium (2,700 milligrams to 2,900 milligrams per serving) as a club sandwich in France (1,300 milligrams per serving).

Salads sold by the fast food chains in France and New Zealand had less than half the salt per serving (300 milligrams) as salads in Canada (800 milligrams). Salad dressings are a major contributor to salt in salads.

Do you know what processed food is doing to your body? How about your kids? How much processed food are they eating? Where are they getting it (or the money to buy it) from? Processed foods have been altered from their natural state and are laden with saturated fats, sodium and sugar and provide little to no nutritional value. As I wrote earlier this month, processed foods are highly addictive and make you want more. Self-hypnosis can help you end the processed food addiction and help you create a healthy desire for real plant based foods. Your healthy body begins with what you put into your mouth. Learn hypnosis and be in control of what you put into your mouth.

Harmful Processed Food Ingredients

High-Fructose Corn Syrup

Research is beginning to suggest that this liquid sweetener may upset the human metabolism, raising the risk for heart disease and diabetes. Researchers say that high-fructose corn syrup’s chemical structure encourages overeating. It also seems to force the liver to pump more heart-threatening triglycerides into the bloodstream. In addition, fructose may zap your body’s reserves of chromium, a mineral important for healthy levels of cholesterol, insulin, and blood sugar.

Trans Fats

Trans fats are in most bakery muffins and crispy crackers, microwave popcorn and fast-food French fries, even the stick margarine you may rely on as a “heart-healthy” alternative to saturated-fat-laden butter. Trans fats are worse for your heart than saturated fats because they boost your levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol and decrease “good” HDL cholesterol. That’s double trouble for your arteries. And unlike saturated fats, trans fats also raise your levels of artery-clogging lipoprotein and triglycerides. Once hailed as a cheap, heart-friendly replacement for butter, lard and coconut oil, trans fats have been denounced by one Harvard nutrition expert as “the biggest food-processing disaster in U.S. history.” Why? Research now reveals trans fats are twice as dangerous for your heart as saturated fat, and cause an estimated 30,000 to 100,000 premature heart disease deaths each year. Trans fats are really like plastic and when we eat them they incorporate in our cells and the cells cannot communicate or talk to one another. In turn, hormones are disturbed, weight gain follows but more troubling, the risk for heart disease, cancer, stroke, infertility goes up.

Salt

Three-quarters of the sodium in our diets isn’t from the saltshaker. It’s hidden in processed foods, such as canned vegetables and soups, condiments like soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, fast-food burgers (and fries, of course), and cured or preserved meats like bacon, ham, and deli turkey.

Refined Grains

Choosing refined grains such as white bread, rolls, sugary low-fiber cereal, white rice, or white pasta over whole grains can boost your heart attack risk by up to 30 percent.

Can You Pronounce It?
Is It A Food Your Grandmother Would Recognize?

Take a look at the list of ingredients from the strawberry flavoring of a milkshake served at a fast food restaurant: Amyl acetate, amyl butyrate, amyl valerate, anethol, anisyl formate, benzyl acetate, benzyl isobutyrate, butyric acid, cinnamyl isobutyrate, cinnamylvalerate, cognac essential oil, diacetyl, dipropyl ketone, ethyl butyrate, ethyl cinnamate, ethyl heptanoate, ethyl lactate, ethyl methylphenylglycidate, ethyl Nitrate, ethyl propionate, ethyl valerbate, heliotropin, hydroxphrenyl-2butanone(10% solution to alcohol), a-ionone, isobutyl anthranilate, isobutyl butrate, lemon essential oil, maltol, 4-methylacetophenone, methyl anthranilate, methyl benzoate, methyl cinnamate, methyl heptine carbone, methyl naphthyl ketone, methyl slicylate, mint essential oil, neroli essential oil, nerolin, neryl isobulyrate, orris butter, phenethyl alcohol, sore rum ether, g-undecalctone, vanillin, and solvent.

Most convenience foods on the market today are laden with saturated fats, sodium and sugar and provide little to no nutritional value. A healthy body starts with what you put into your mouth. Self-hypnosis can help you seek out real satisfaction, like a juicy peach or a bright red strawberry. Hypnosis can help you to relish what’s on your plate. Devote time to solely enjoying the pleasures of eating. Indulge in that piece of dark chocolate while sitting on a park bench, rather than while perched at your desk, catching up on e-mail. Sit down at your kitchen table for dinner, not parked in front of the TV. Eating without distractions will help you savor the tastes, textures, smells, and colors of the food on your plate. Your healthy body begins with what you put into your mouth. What are you putting into your mouth?

Overweight kids risk having high blood pressure now – not just later on in life, but now. Being overweight, not just obese, can cause damage to the heart, blood vessels and kidneys. Childhood obesity is for the most part preventable and from my perspective it is unconscionable that in 2011 we are feeding our kids high fat, high sugar, processed food and beverages. As a nation we cannot afford the rising healthcare costs. Our children today have a shorter life expectancy than my generation. To me, that is wrong – even criminal. We must have healthcare reform. We cannot continue eating at fast food restaurants or eating mac n’ cheese at home. Putting an end to childhood obesity has to be a family affair. Set an example for your children by being physically active with them and by eating healthy plant-based meals. At Slender For Life™ I offer real weight loss hypnosis solutions that work. Please, don’t wait any longer to do something about your health and the health of your children.

Overweight Kids Risk High Blood Pressure

WebMD Health News, October 3, 2011: Children who are overweight compared to their peers are nearly three times more likely to have high blood pressure, a new study shows.

The study also found that extra pounds are especially dangerous for kids who are already big. For an overweight and obese child, if you increase your BMI [body mass index] percentile a little bit, that would increase your blood pressure strongly. In the same way, for just a little bit of weight loss you could benefit greatly in terms of blood pressure.

Pediatricians say the study is wake-up call. We’ve tended to look at the overweight category as a lower-risk category. This suggests that we really need to worry about kids who are in that overweight category. Other experts say the findings are concerning because having high blood pressure has been shown to set kids up for health complications.

Not only are children with high blood pressure much more likely to turn into adults who have high blood pressure, but newer studies have shown that kids can get the same kinds of organ damage — to the heart, blood vessels, and kidneys — that doctors once thought was only a problem for adults with the condition.

One study even found that kids with high blood pressure have subtle changes in the brain area that controls attention, problem solving, and working memory. So it’s not going to be a risk that’s going to be in the future. It’s a risk that’s now. It jacks up the concern about preventing childhood obesity and also not waiting until they are obese.

Kids are naturals at hypnosis and as I have said previously, I think self-hypnosis should be taught to children in preschool and throughout their school years. If you have children who are overweight, show them that you love them by making weight loss a family affair and setting an example of health. As parents, you must eat healthy plant-based food and exercise. Involve your children in preparing healthy meals and be physically active together. Weight loss hypnosis can make the difference for you and for your children.

Take Jeff’s advice and learn which basic ingredients to keep in stock: canned no-salt-added beans and tomatoes, plenty of frozen veggies and fruit, and lots of potatoes and brown rice. Then eat all you want, get to your ideal weight, and stay happy and satisfied at your goal weight.

Food should taste good. It should be sensuous, flavorful and full of wonderful textures and aromas. Food should be a delight. The problem is that too many people eat too much food too fast (and often the wrong food) and miss out on the real pleasure that healthy eating can offer. Fast food can be healthy and affordable.

Did you see Jamie Oliver make that ice cream sundae on his Food Revolution? Pretty gross, huh? What is sad is that so many people depend on inexpensive, convenient fast food and have similar health issues as does Sophia’s family. Dino is right – we have a choice. I keep saying that we must vote with our wallet and stop buying food that makes us sick. If we were to stop buying food that has crazy words for ingredients and stop eating greasy fried food in fast food restaurants, healthier choices would become available at affordable prices. At Slender For Life™ we focus on eating real food, plant-based food that really does look like God made it. Are you ready to make the change and eat food that looks like it was dug out of the earth, picked off of plant or a bush or out of a tree? If you are ready, self-hypnosis can make the change easier for you. Learn hypnosis with Slender For Life™.

When I watched this episode of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution I was really grossed out when Jamie made the sundae. He showed shiny candy and Saturday night I ate one of those candy hot tamales in a Mexican Restaurant. I had no idea about the shellac. Do your kids know where their food comes from? How about you? – Do you really know what’s in the food that you eat? Let’s get the crazy words our of our food.

My book, Becoming Slender For Life offers a different way to think about weight release and management. I encourage an emphasis on low-fat, high-starch eating. I also recommend reinventing yourself as a flexitarian—someone who is not overly rigid about food choices, and allows for occasional indulgences on holidays, birthdays and so on. And, of course, there is no avoiding the importance of exercise, though I do offer some unconventional ideas about adding more movement to your life.

What really separates this diet book from the rest, is the addition of self-hypnosis techniques, which are absolutely safe and easy to learn. Using an innovative one-minute exercise, anyone can make time for this powerful component several times a day. Mastering these techniques empowers you to reinforce your healthy new lifestyle habits for the rest of your life, plus you can use these same techniques to makes changes in any other area of your life. You can get free chapters of Becoming Slender For Life by clicking here.
