9 Attitudes of Mindfulness

The 9 Attitudes of Mindfulness by Jon Kabat-Zinn constitute the major pillars of mindfulness practice taught at the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

The 9 Attitudes are nonjudging, gratitude, patience, a beginner’s mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance, letting go, gratitude and generosity. These attitudes are to be cultivated consciously.

Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, is professor of medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he founded the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society in 1995, and its world-renowned Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Clinic in 1979.

Since the early 1980’s I have studied Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and have been teaching it to clients since 1997. Some of the benefits of MBSR are stress reduction, reducing anxiety and depression, overcoming problematic belief systems, improving long-term memory and attention, can be an effective complementary treatment for ADHD, and pain management.
