Can hypnosis cure cancer
This week I received this email from Jim: “Roger – my wife has cancer and I learned about you and your cancer hypnosis work at Peninsula Cancer Center in Poulsbo. I have two questions: Can hypnosis cure cancer and, please tell me about your cancer care support group. Sincerely, Jim”
Thanks Jim for your question and I am so sorry to learn that your wife has cancer. I wish her well.
I try to be very clear with people that hypnosis does not cure or heal cancer or any other disease or illness. Having said that, I do believe that the human body was created to be healthy and it was created to heal. And, I do believe that hypnosis can help facilitate health and healing.
In the blog post that accompanies this video I will include a link to some of the research that supports the use of hypnosis with cancer and I will briefly mention a few of the studies now.
Research
Studies are showing that hypnosis is a powerful and effective tool in dealing with the physical symptoms of cancer as well as decreasing need for anesthesia during surgery, alleviating pain, nausea, fatigue and emotional distress. Hypnosis is also used to modify the course of the disease process itself through the use of imagery. Studies show that during surgery, that hypnotized women required 22% less analgesia and 34% less sedation. After surgery, they reported 53% less pain intensity, 46% less fatigue, 47% less discomfort, and 74% less emotional upset. They also spent 11 fewer minutes in surgery, resulting in a cost savings of almost $800.00 per patient. ~Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Cancer care support
Support for Living Well is the cancer care support group at Peninsula Cancer Center that you asked about. We have been meeting on the third Monday of every month for several years. Some people come and go and others have been attending for years.
Each month we check-in with those who are in attendance and welcome new participants. Most months I present some information or teach a tool or technique for mindfulness, stress reduction and overall health and wellness. We end the session with hypnosis.
All are welcome to attend. We have people who are living with cancer, people who are now cancer free and people who have never had cancer. Some participants live with chronic pain, sleep disorders, autoimmune diseases and other illnesses. Family members and caregivers are welcome to attend.
