“Roger, my doctor is all over me about losing weight. I have about 100 pounds to lose. I have high blood pressure, diabetes and I have rheumatoid arthritis.
My doctor tells me that if I eat right I will lose weight, I will no longer need the blood pressure and diabetes medication and I won’t suffer so much with arthritis.
I know that my health will be better if I lose weight but I’ve gained and lost weight all my life. I’ve just never have been able to stay motivated.

What is your Motivator?
Donna commitment to weight loss is a struggle for many people. You know that you “should” lose and weight and that you “need” to lose weight to improve your health, but all your reasons get in the way and sabotage you.
Health is almost never a motivator. People will use will power and not eat fast food for a short period of time. But then they get rushed and will power is gone and it’s quicker and easier to have the greasy hamburger and fries.
You may have seen people walking down the street with their oxygen tank and a cigarette or with a cigarette in their tracheostomy.
Studies by Dr. Dean Ornish and others have shown that health is not a motivator. The studies show that love is a motivator. The opportunity for you is what will you be doing with good health? What is your burning desire – your passion- to create lasting lifestyle change?
Focus on how you would love to be
What will it be like to be able to sit on the floor and play with your grandchildren and stand back up?
What will it be like for you to ride a bike, go on a hike or walk Disneyland for two or three days with your kids?
What will it be like for you to be able to walk up and down the hills of Italy in your 80”s?
What will it be like for you to easily get in and out of your bathtub or in and out of your car?
When you focus on how you would love to be and on what you will love to do at your healthy ideal weight, then being committed to your weight loss goal becomes so much easier.
People typically treat weight loss like they would a cold. They take on short term, temporary measures hoping for long-term change. It doesn’t work that way.
Lasting weight loss requires a radical lifestyle change motivated by your burning desire live your life passionately.
So, my question to you Donna is, “What is so compelling about being at your healthy weight that you make eating more whole grains, more vegetables and more fruit worthwhile? What is so compelling about your goal that makes skipping the cookie or bag of chips worthwhile?”
