Lose weight before the holidays
People often wonder if they should try to lose weight before the holidays. I received this email from Sue in Medford, OR.
My cousin is one of your online weight loss clients and she’s lost about 80 pounds so far. Thank you for helping her with that. She talks very highly of you.
I have about 60 pounds that I want to lose. I have been overweight for the past 20 years since the birth of my first child. I’ve tried and failed a thousand times to lose weight and I weigh more now than I ever have before.
My cousin has shown me your book and let me listen to one of your recordings, so I am familiar with the program. I live in Medford, so we’d meet online.
My biggest question is that since it’s mid-September, I’m not sure I should start now. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are all big events in our house. Candy and holiday food will be everywhere.
Should I start to lose weight before the holidays? I’d like to, but maybe I should wait until January. Let me know what you think.
Excuse to put off losing weight
Thank you for asking this question. It is one that is often discussed. Sometimes I hear someone using the holidays as another excuse to put off losing weight. That doesn’t sound like you.
A couple of years ago there was a similar “Ask Roger” question so I am going to share with you some of what I shared with that person.
But, first, let me begin by saying that there is no better time to begin improving your health than right now. Just think, by letting go of just 2 pounds each week, you could be down 20 to 25 pounds by New Years Day! How awesome would that be?
We are rapidly approaching a hectic time of year and we are surrounded by holiday foods that are often high in fat and sugar. These special foods are ones that we only get once a year.
There are several questions that you have to ask yourself:
- Do you really want to wait until January to start your weight loss and weigh as much as 5 to 10 pounds more than you do now?
- You already know what these foods taste like. You know that you like them. What would happen if you didn’t have them this year?
- Are you willing to explore the possibility that with hypnosis for weight loss you can learn to enjoy one cookie and then be done?
I ask all Slender For Life™ hypnosis for weight loss clients to set realistic goals for their weight over the holiday. Maintaining your current weight between December 23 and January 2 can be a great success.
Just because it’s the holidays does not mean you have to gain weight. But I also don’t believe it’s realistic to not have any of the special holiday foods.
Baking cookies with family and friends can be a fun holiday activity and it’s OK to sit down and enjoy a cookie. But you don’t have to eat the whole batch.
