What is the wiggle?
What is the wiggle? It’s a simple and powerfully effective stress reduction technique. This is a part of an email that I received from Melissa in Pueblo, Colorado.
“Several years ago, I did some online sessions with you to help me through a very stressful time. You taught me something that involved a wiggle that helped me to relax. I remember how well it worked – but I haven’t used in in a couple of years and now I can’t remember it. I have some stressful things going on at the moment so please remind me about the wiggle.
Thanks, Melissa”

Calmly handle the stressors
This is what I wrote to Melissa: “Hi Melissa – it’s great to hear from you. I do remember how well you responded to Roger’s Wiggle and that it was powerfully effective for you.
One of the things that I love about the Wiggle is how simple and silly it is and that it really works.
Here it is: Wiggle your toes. Wiggle your butt. Take a deep breath in through your nose and let it out through your mouth.
That’s all that there is to it. You don’t even have to do the Hula to have it work. You can be in front of a large audience and wiggle your toes in your shoes, think about wiggling your butt, take a deep breath in and let it out. You can do this very subtly – no one will ever know.
No one will notice. Just the thought of the silliness of wiggling your butt is enough to get you out the stress and back into your body. No matter what stressors are going on around you, in that moment you are OK. From this place of mindfulness, you can now calmly handle the stressors.”
