I am excited to see this study showing that behavior change is key to lower heart risk. For too long now the medical community has given up on behavior change and focused on prescribing medications to off set the results of unhealthy behaviors. What I know with over 13 years of experience in my Seattle hypnosis and Bainbridge Island hypnosis offices is that hypnosis works for behavior change. Unfortunately, Hollywood and stage hypnotists have created myths and fears about hypnotherapy that keep many people from experiencing the benefits of self-hypnosis. Here at Hypnosis Health Info you can find articles and tools explaining hypnosis and how you can put self-hypnosis to work for you. With hypnotherapy you really can make life-long behavior changes. Make positive changes with hypnosis in your life and begin creating your health and wellness.
Behavior Change Is Key to Lower Heart Risk
Lowering Heart Disease Risk Factors Accounts for 48% of Decline in Heart Disease Deaths
From WebMD Health News, May 11, 2010: New medical and surgical treatments for heart disease may grab headlines. But it is improvements in risk factors such as lowering cholesterol levels and blood pressure that account for nearly half of the decline in heart disease deaths, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Behavior changes and modification of risk factors accounted for 48% of the overall decreased mortality rate. What was surprising to the researchers was that although the medical and surgical treatments improve, behavior change and risk factors continue to be important.
The researchers expected medications and surgical treatments would have played a clearly dominant role. Yet, they found just 43% of the lowered death rate could be attributed to medical and surgical treatments.
High-tech surgery isn’t the end-all, nor are medications. Even in this era, when we have many, many good medications available to us, all of which work quite well, the most basic things — exercise, eating properly, avoiding diabetes, and ensuring an ideal body weight”– have a tremendous impact on outcome. You get the most bang for the buck with prevention.
By simply focusing on acute intervention, we are going to miss the boat. Refocusing attention on prevention and risk factor modification and disease management of the coronary heart disease are key. Read Behavior Change Is Key to Lower Heart Risk.
