Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool and amazing positive changes can be made using hypnosis. And of course, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. But what about when you think you are making healthy choices and discover that your choice is filled with hidden fat and sodium – hypnosis won’t help with that. Even with hypnosis, you only can make requests to the kitchen staff – you don’t have control over what they do, you can only make the best choice that you can.

Case in point: I love Chinese food and one of my favorite dishes is Buddha’s Delight; also known as vegetarian delight or simply, stir-fried vegetables. When I can, I prefer to have the vegetables steamed and if having them stir-fired is my only choice, I beg for as little oil as possible. But, in looking for something else, I stumbled upon this about a typical restaurant serving of Buddha’s Delight.

Buddha’s Delight is typically a mix of Chinese and seasonal vegetables like baby corn, bamboo shoots, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, snow peas and water chestnuts for a total of 750 calories, 19 grams of fat (171 fat calories) and 2150 milligrams of sodium! WOW! No wonder more than 65% of all Americans look like Buddha!

I guess the good news is that rarely am I able to eat the whole thing – there are at least two meals and sometimes three meals from that one restaurant meal.

I always caution people who are going on vacation that maintaining their current weight is a great goal when most meals are eaten in a restaurant or in a family member or friend’s home. It’s really difficult to lose weight when the food preparation is in someone else’s hands.

At home, my wife and I make great stir fried vegetables in the Wok using water instead of oil – we spice it up without sodium and fat, put it on brown rice and man is it good!
