The research is compelling that cancer and the food you eat are are intricately connected. The persuasive evidence is that a whole food plant-based life can help prevent cancer and may even reverse cancer. Since 1997, Seattle Hypnosis with Roger Moore has supported hundreds of people in transitioning to plant-based food.

Sadly, most Americans are still eating the Standard American Diet – the food that makes 68.8 percent of people living in the U.S. fat and sick. More than 90% of all cancers are caused by lifestyle choices. According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, “food accounts for roughly 35 percent to 60 percent of cancers, including cancers of the stomach, colon, liver, prostate, breast, uterus, and ovary, among other sites.”

You are the architect of your health. You build its foundation with the food you eat and you choose its contents. Knowing that cancer and the food you eat are so interrelated it only makes sense that you would avoid the Standard American Diet.

The Research

American Institute for Cancer Research: AICR’s expert report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective, found that eating a plant-based diet – as in the New American Plate – may reduce the risk of cancer.

The report concluded that maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important things you can do to reduce your risk of cancer.

Strategies for Cancer Prevention:

  1. Eat mostly plant-based foods, which are low in energy density
  2. Be physically active
  3. Maintain a healthy weight (via steps 1 and 2, as well as reducing portion size)

Cancer Prevention

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine: A vegetarian diet helps prevent cancer. Studies of vegetarians show that death rates from cancer are only about one-half to three-quarters of the general population’s death rates.

Breast cancer rates are dramatically lower in countries where diets are typically plant-based. When people from those countries adopt a Western, meat-based diet, their rates of breast cancer soar. Vegetarians also have significantly lower rates of colon cancer than meat-eaters. Colon cancer is more closely associated with meat consumption than any other dietary factor.
