According to Isaac Wolf of the Scripps Howard News Service dishes targeted to health-conscious consumers at popular chains such as Chili’s, Taco Bell, Applebee’s, and Macaroni Grill contained as much as twice the calories and eight times the grams of fat than the restaurants claimed in their published nutrition information.
The Macaroni Grill Pollo Margo Skinny Chickenis listed by the restaurant as having 6 grams of fat. Scripps test results show 49 grams (that’s 441 fat calories!). Chili’s Guiltless Grill salmon is listed as 14 grams of fat – the test results show 35 grams (315 fat calories). Taco Bell’s Grilled Steak Soft Taco is listed at 4.5 grams of fat and test results reveal 20 grams of fat ((180 fat calories).
This reminds me of several years ago discovering that Denny’s soak their veggie burgers in fat and the result was that it had more fat that a McDonald’s cheeseburger.
In Slender For Life™ I tell clients to assume that a restaurant meal is going to have about 40% more fat than if they made the same meal at home.
So, what can you do? Stop eating when you have enough fuel in your body! How do you do this you ask? It actually can be pretty easy.
