Coronavirus: Fear won’t help

Fear won’t help with the Coronavirus.

I had the most wonderful interaction with a woman in the grocery store last week. I was in the checkout line and in my cart I had a 6-pack of TP, 4 cans of black beans, a bag of brown rice and a package of pasta. The woman in line in front of me turned and we smiled at each other. She looked at me and asked, “Are you scared?” I shook my head and said, “No – it won’t help.”

She beamed, giggled and even did a little dance and said, “I’m so happy  – I needed to hear that.” She went on to tell me that she was strong in her faith and that her faith had her covered whether she had the Coronavirus or not. She paused, looked at her few cans of food, her bag of brown rice and her own 6-pack of TP and said, “I have food and toilet paper. I’m OK!”

I laughed and told her how happy it made me that she knew that she was OK. We talked about how fear, worry and negative thinking only make things worse and that we do have the power of choice over our thoughts and emotions. As she left, we gave each other air hugs, big smiles and wished each other well.
