Coronavirus: Things to know right now

The Parkinson’s Resource Organization (PRO) has created Things to know right now in response to the Coronavirus. I was honored to be asked to make a video with Jo Rosen, Executive Director, to discuss ways that you can use the power of your own mind to help boost your immune system and to be calm, relaxed and to feel safe.

It is really, really easy right now to be swept up in the fear, anxiety and uncertainties that accompany the Coronavirus. I’ve recognized the beginnings of these stressors within myself. But, you can use the power of your own mind to stop those thoughts and those emotions and to create new thoughts and new emotions of calm, relaxed safety which in turn can boost your immune system.

Roger’s Wiggle

Wiggle your toes. Wiggle your butt. Take a deep breath in through your nose and let it out through your mouth.

That’s all that there is to it. You don’t even have to do the Hula to have it work. You can be in front of a large audience and wiggle your toes in your shoes, think about wiggling your butt, take a deep breath in and let it out. You can do this very subtly – no one will ever know.

No one will notice. Just the thought of the silliness of wiggling your butt is enough to get you out the stress and back into your body. No matter what stressors are going on around you, in that moment you are OK. From this place of mindfulness, you can now calmly handle the stressors
