Cycling is the happiest form of transport

All cyclists know that cycling is the happiest form of transport. It didn’t take a study to prove it to us. That is why we do it!

My wife knows that riding my bike is my addiction. When days have turned to weeks without a bike ride, my wife can tell by my mood. She’s asked me on more than one occasion, “Do you need a bike ride?” And a couple of times she’s just said, “Go get on your bike!”

I have a t-shirt that reads, “I love it when my wife lets me ride my bike.” The “I love my wife” is in big font and the rest is the fine print. Even the t-shirt brings smiles and giggles to people.

I understand that cycling may not be your thing. I get that and that’s OK. What’s most important is that you get off the couch and move. Be active and be happy!

A new study confirms what every cyclist already knows.

A new study by Yingling Fan of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota and Jing Zhu of Northwestern University studied Daily travel behavior and emotional well-being: Effects of trip mode, duration, purpose, and companionship and finds that when it comes to your daily commute, cycling is the happiest form of transportation. The researchers “examined how the mode, duration, purpose, and companionship characteristics of a trip shape six different emotions during the trip, including happy, meaningful, tired, stressful, sad, and pain.”
