Could you stand up and sit down several times while you talk on the phone? Could you lift some light hand-held weights while you watch TV? Hypnosis for exercise motivation can help you increase your activity level everyday. Learn self hypnosis and escape from your ball and chain. Your desk is not a ball and chain is this weeks reading from Becoming Slender For Life.

Your desk is not a ball and chain

Let’s face it—many of us spend our working lives sitting down. No matter how fabulous your chair is, it’s still bad for your health to live so much of your live in it. “We are made to move, not sit at a desk 12 hours a day,” reminds Joan Price, author of The Anytime, Anywhere Exercise Book. “As ergonomic as your desk or chair may be, sitting produces back pains, headaches and listlessness. You become less productive.”

In her book she suggests hundreds of ways to sneak activity into your office life, including taking one-minute aerobic breaks, which have been shown to reduce risk of heart disease and increase longevity. She also has great ideas for stretching and strength training you can do at your desk. Don’t let embarrassment or fear of co-workers’ kidding stop you—secretly they’ll admire you for your initiative. See other books on this subject in the Appendix.

Make it a good habit you don’t want to break

Set up a regular exercise schedule and stick to it. If it’s the gym, say “hello” to the people you regularly see. I have been working out most every morning for ten years with the same group of people. We don’t talk much, but we acknowledge each other, and we notice when someone is missing. I know the grief I will get from them the next day over sleeping in one morning isn’t worth staying in bed! I know that’s enough of a motivator to get me on my way.

And if you live alone, are new to an area, or are just a bit short on a social circle, making friends through a common love of activity is an added boon. This is especially important for seniors, who often become increasingly isolated as the years roll by. There are bound to be special exercise programs just for seniors in your area, so don’t let embarrassment about your age or lack of physical conditioning keep you at home in the rocking chair!

I’ve admitted on several occasions that I am over the top when it comes to physical activity. Maybe it’s because I went from being a very sedentary obese person who couldn’t be active to being slender and healthy. Now I’m making up for all those years of sitting front of the tube. You don’t have to run a marathon or ride your bike 204 miles in one day to lose weight and be healthy. With hypnosis for exercise motivation you can be renewed with energy. Learn self hypnosis and ask your doctor if getting off the couch is right for you.
