Emotions and neuroplasticity
Emotions and neuroplasticity is this week’s focus on Becoming the Greatest Expression of You. My Greatest Expression of You process is all about you learning to respond to old triggers with healthier emotions. Think of it as an emotional reset.
The Greatest Expression of You is not about denial of emotions. You have probably had the experience of being told to “cheer up” or to “get over it” during times of emotional upheaval. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like it if I’m struggling emotionally and I’m told to “cheer up” or “this too shall pass.” I want to slug the person saying it. I find that very patronizing.
Your emotions and neuroplasticity are very connected. As you know, neuroplasticity is a fancy way of saying that your brain can change. We now know that your “cognitive brain” is also your “emotional brain. Your brain’s emotional circuits are connected to its thinking circuits. These thinking circuits are more accessible to your conscious mind. You can change your emotional state with your thoughts.

I am creating a life of love, compassion and forgiveness for myself and the world around me.
The Greatest Expression of You process is all about empowerment. It is about resilience. It’s about you ending your victimization to anger, hurt, fear and sadness. Living in a constant state of fear and anxiety, anger, hurt or sadness is a learned behavior. It’s what you know. It’s how you know to live. It is automatic, known and even comfortable. In my March 20, 2016 blog post, Becoming the Greatest Expression of You, it is stated that you have become addicted to your old emotional pattern. With my Greatest Expression of You process, you can end this addiction.
At some point in your life, you memorized living in the old emotional state of anger, hurt, fear or sadness. Using the Greatest Expression of You process, you can memorize JOY and live your life being your best self. Now that’s empowerment!
Build neural pathways of love, compassion and forgiveness
OK. We’ve all built neuropathways of anger, hurt, fear and sadness. Imagine with me for a moment: What if we were to build neural pathways of love, compassion and forgiveness?
Take a moment right now and list at least five aspects in your life where anger, hurt, fear and sadness have held you back. Next, reflect for a moment on how each of these five areas may be different if you were being your best self. What if you approached them from love, compassion and forgiveness? What if you fully embraced Joy and experienced each of these facets of you being your best self?
When you stop reinforcing those old neural pathways of anger, hurt, fear and sadness, those neurons will stop firing and separate. If you don’t use it you lose it. In this case, that’s a great thing!
When you memorize JOY and reinforce the neural pathways of love, compassion and forgiveness with Mental Rehearsal, you build a superhighway of neural pathways that lead to your best self.
Use the Greatest Expression of You process throughout each day and create a life of love, compassion and forgiveness for yourself and the world around you.
