When it comes to exercise, hypnosis can hep you put the power in today. Getting off the couch and becoming more active seems to be a universal challenge. We humans were created to harvest the fields, haul water and gather firewood. Sitting in front of a TV, at the keyboard or behind a steering wheel is not part of our physical makeup. Begin your exercise today! Exercise gets your metabolism going, burns off your excess body fat and increases your lean body mass. Starting out may be a challenge. I know it was for me and often is for many of my clients. Programs such as Curves have been a great way to get going for many women. But sometimes to get started, you just gotta do it!

Early one morning driving to the gym, I heard a physician on National Public Radio talking about obesity and the importance of exercise. She was very pragmatic about exercise. She said we should stop making excuses and worrying about exercise being fun or enjoyable, and instead we should consider it a prescription.

It is just something we have to do, just like taking medication for a particular condition. It isn’t optional.

Our condition as humans is that we were created to hunt and gather, to walk and run, to be active most of the day. We were never designed to sit at a computer all day, lounge around in front of a TV or ride around in a car.

You don’t have to become a marathon runner or long-distance cyclist to be more active. My 90 year-old mother gets up and walks through her house with her walker several times a day purposefully for the exercise. She also sits in her chair and does leg and arm lifts as well as other strengthening and range of motion activities.

What can you do today to be more active? Here are some ideas: Walk to the mailbox twice. Walk around your yard. Take the dog for a faster and longer walk than usual. Play ball with your kids. Go bowling. Dance.
