Like any new skill, the more you use it, the more successful you become. Postage Stamp is an excellent tool to use with self-hypnosis so that you can lose weight and keep it off.
You learned a variation of the postage stamp technique in Chapter Three, and here is another use. Imagine a cinnamon roll (or whatever food or beverage craving you want to diminish). You can smell the cinnamon, sugar and the yeast. It’s still warm and the frosting is slightly runny. Your fingers are sticky and your mouth bursts with sensation as you taste the dough, sugar and cinnamon.
Next, imagine stepping out of that scene and turning it into a photograph of you with the cinnamon roll. Make the photo either all white, gray or black and shrink it down to the size of a postage stamp. If you are right handed, visualize it in the far left hand corner of the room on the floor (if you are left handed, put it in the far right hand corner of the room on the floor). Now notice that the desire for the cinnamon roll is gone.
This technique can also be put to good use when dining out. Even if you’re having the best meal of your life, there is no need to overeat. Once you reach the level of fullness that is enough fuel for your body, just Postage Stamp the remainder of the meal and you’ll feel totally satisfied without having to clean your plate or pick at it until it’s taken away.
