Portion control diets result in weight loss that is maintained over 5 years for less than 3 out of 100 people. Dr. Fuhrman says seek nutrient dense foods such as vegetables and that animal protein, sugar and caffeine feed toxic hunger.

Dr. Fuhrman recommends that you eat high volume foods such as raw vegetables, fresh fruits, cooked greens and non-green vegetables. In this video, Dr. Fuhrman has a slide that shows that 400 calories of oil contain very little space in the stomach, that 400 calories of chicken contain only slightly more space while 400 calories of spinach, eggplant, and beans completely fills the stomach. 400 calories of oil and chicken will leave you very hungry while 400 calories of spinach, eggplant, and beans will fill you up and leave you feeling satisfied for hours to come. Bottom line, eat nutrient dense food.
