I’m always curious when overweight and obese people buy into the marketing of “good fat.” If you are carrying a high percentage of body fat, does adding more fat to it make sense for health or for weight loss? Seriously! As Dr. John McDougall would say, olive oil when worn in excess on the body looks no better than bacon fat. Health care experts like Dr. McDougall and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn recommend that only about 10% of your total caloric intake should come from fat. Many new Slender For Life™ weight loss hypnosis clients tell me that they crave fat. I remember when I did too – that was 110 pounds ago. Thanks to hypnosis for weight loss, I developed healthy desires for vegetables, whole grains and fruit. I lost weight and have kept the weight off for almost 17 years. You can too!

Plant-Strong By The Numbers

FAT

By Mark Sutton: Added oil or fat is essentially a nutritionally useless, high caloric, non-real food that altogether too many people really believe is healthy in some obscure way, without having truly understood the studies popular media promulgates. To cite added oil as beneficial in terms of omega-3, reducing cholesterol, or any other exaggerated myth, is quite misleading and counter-productive to encouraging people trying to be heart healthy and plant-strong. Also, in many cases, the amount of fat most people consume is much larger than they realize. These numbers help illustrate that point:

• 14 to 28 grams

The amount of fat recommended by Dr. Esselstyn, et. al., to stay “plant-strong” daily (assuming 1,200 to 2,500 calories per day, 10% from fat).

• 14 grams

The amount of fat in one tablespoon of olive oil, with a slight variance for other types of vegetable oil.

• 16 tablespoons

The number of tablespoons in a cup. Oil: 1 cup = 224 grams of fat, 1/2 cup = 112 grams of fat, 1/3 cup = 74 grams of fat, 1/4 cup = 56 grams of fat

• 3 – 5 hours

This is the approximate number of hours it takes for single high-fat meal, esp. with olive oil, to negatively compromise your circulatory system.

EXTRA CREDIT:

• 12 – 13 grams (amount of fat in 1 oz. of raw cashews, little less than 1/4 cup)

• 11 grams (amount of fat in 1 tablespoon Earth Balance)

• 9 grams (amount of fat in 1 tablespoon of Vegenaise)

• 40 olives (approximately, size of olive-dependent, to make 1 tablespoon of olive oil

Hypnosis weight loss clients also tell me that they heard that they need omeg-3 in their diet. It is disheartening that so many health care providers are uneducated and mislead by slick marketing.
