Healing

I’ve always shied away from using the words heal and healing with clients. My experience is that healing is often misconstrued for “cure.”

I am not a medical doctor and staying within my scope of practice has always been important to me so I never use the word “cure.”

I tell people that hypnosis does not cure someone from cancer, autoimmune disease or other illness. People do share with me that they have experienced symptom alleviation or that they are now symptom free.

Healing

Healing does happen

I do know that healing does happen in my office. And, hypnosis is a powerful tool for healing. The dictionary defines healing as to make whole.  Healing is the process of the restoration of health from an unbalanced, diseased or damaged organism.

E. Alessandra Strada writes in The Helping Professional’s Guide to End-of-Life Care: Practical Tools for Emotional, Social, and Spiritual Support for the Dying, “Healing involves a sense of feeling complete, safe, and in harmony with self and others and even with the difficult circumstances we may be facing.”

While cure can sometimes be achieved, healing can always be the goal.

“It’s not so much what you do that brings healing. It’s who you are.” ~Strada

Becoming whole

The Greatest Expression of You process is all about becoming whole. When you are being your Best Self, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing happens. While you may not experience a “cure”, you can experience healing.

This concept of healing without a cure was poignantly pointed out to me recently by a client who was nearing the end of her life. She knew that she only had a few weeks to live and she was determined to make the most of it by being her Best Self.

She talked extensively about Gratitude. I was particularly touched when she expressed her gratitude for her body’s ability to heal. Even though she was dying from cancer, when she cut her finger – it healed. For this, she was grateful.

We cannot change the fact that each of us will die. We can have some control over how we live. Live your life being the Greatest Expression of You – it’s who you truly are.
