Hope
It was about a year ago that I wrote about hope in a post titled Hope and Optimism. Hope is a subject that I talk about frequently and in recent years I’ve been reading about hope and exploring the meaning of hope.
Becoming the Greatest Expression of You is based in hope. Let’s be clear – hope is not just wishful thinking. Wishing to win the lottery requires action – you have to buy a ticket. Hope requires purpose-driven action.
I’ve learned over the years from people who were seemingly hopeless or who were facing situations that appeared hopeless, that hope is a choice and hope can be learned.
In Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, he wrote about when we build castles in the air we need to put the foundations under them. I love that.
The Greatest Expression of You process is taking the idea of your Best Self and adding action to it by Memorizing Joy, Mentally Rehearsing being your best and using self-hypnosis to remind yourself of who it is you are becoming.

Castles in the air
“I learned this at least by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live that life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”
—Henry Thoreau, Walden
Hope – what does it mean?
I will be writing more Greatest Expression posts dealing with Hope in the upcoming weeks and I ask for your help.
- What does Hope mean to you?
- What are your experiences with Hope in your life?
- What are your Hopes and dreams for the future?
- If you have felt hopeless, how did you move through it?
You can respond to these questions with an email to me, by commenting to this post or tell me in person. Of course, I’d like to use your responses (anonymously) in upcoming posts. But, if that’s not OK with you, I’d still love to hear from you about your thoughts on Hope.
So please, join with me in this journey of exploring Hope. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we all lived more Hopeful lives? Wouldn’t it be awesome if Hope becomes contagious?!
