On the day before I went on vacation a Seattle weight loss hypnosis client said she just realized this past week that she had to be intentional to stay on course and achieve her goal. Her exact words were, “I have to start over every day. I have to be intentional every day.” I almost cried with joy. She gets it!!!! She understands that in order to lose weight and keep it off, it really is one day at a time. With hypnosis for weight loss and other mindfulness hypnosis techniques you can live intentionally and be in control of what you eat, how much you eat and ultimately your weight. And, the good news is, it can be easy.
Intentional living
I’m reminded of the story about the monk who was traveling across a field and encountered a tiger. He ran and the tiger chased him. Coming to a precipice, he caught hold of the root of a wild vine and swung himself down over the edge. The tiger sniffed at him from above. Trembling, the man looked down to where, far below, another tiger was waiting to eat him. Only the vine sustained him.
Two mice, one white and one black, little by little started to gnaw away the vine. The man saw a luscious strawberry near him. Grasping the vine with one hand, he plucked the strawberry with the other. It was the best strawberry he ever tasted in his life! Now, that’s living in the moment!
I really do think that most people live fortuitously – unintentionally. By this I mean that people get out of bed mindlessly and go through their day doing what they do in an autopilot trance. They eat mindlessly and worry about this and fret about that and awfulize about something else.
Stress eaters will devour a bag of Doritos or a carton Chunk Monkey without tasting it and go back for more because they missed tasting it in the first round. They gain weight, diet and because they are living in this mindless trance something happens to trigger the old unconscious response to stress eat. Some will even call me and want weight loss hypnosis as a magic wand that doesn’t require their active participation. “What? I have to do self hypnosis five times a day, every day?! You really expect me to do that?”
Intentional living, mindfulness, allows you to be fully in the moment – to live life present and conscious in your body.
Yes, there are times in life that we may want to escape and not be conscious. Many people spend much of their time and money using alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, sex, TV and other means to escape and live mindlessly. Life can be painful. I truly believe that we are intended to experience the highs and lows of life. We are to experience the great love and joy and great pain and sorrow that life offers for us. The more you try to numb the pain, the more you flat-line the love and joy. When you experience your pain and sorrow, you know you are alive. In my experience, people who allow the great pain and sorrow ultimately experience more love and joy in their life. They don’t miss out on life by wasting time trying to numb out.
