We have an obesity epidemic and our kids are seeing more fast food ads. Last week I wrote about the government pushing cheese sales on one hand while warning about the dangers of fat on the other. No wonder by 2050, 100% of the US population will be overweight! Today, young children are being diagnosed with diseases resulting from obesity that were once only seen in adults. Our health care costs are sky rocketing and will continue as long as we continue to get fatter. Military recruiters are reporting that more and more young adults are being rejected from the military because they are too fat. What are we doing?! The weight loss hypnosis offices of Slender For Life™  can help you make the lifestyle for you and for your family so that you can take charge of what and how much you are eating. Fast Food Ads For Kids Up Despite Industry Vow

From NPR, November 9, 2010. If your kids have eaten at a fast food restaurant in the past seven days, you’re in good company. According to a new survey by researchers at Yale University, 84 percent of parents say their kids have, too.

The average preschooler sees about three ads a day, according to the findings. Teenagers see about five per day.

Using data from The Nielsen Company and Arbitron Inc., researchers analyzed ads aired by 12 chains, including Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC and McDonald’s. They found that preschoolers are seeing 21% more ads for fast food, and older children are seeing 34% more — compared with 2003. What researchers found in the marketing data is a staggering amount of fast-food advertising that starts when children are as young as 2 years old. McDonald’s Corp has 13 websites, attracting 365,000 unique child visitors under 12 every month. One, ronald.com, specifically targets preschoolers.

By the way, did you know that at  California Pizza Kitchen, the children’s Mac ‘N Cheese is 949 calories, 34 grams of saturated fat (2 days worth) and 721 mg. of sodium?!

Here is an excellent resource for parents when planning family trips to fast food restaurants. The the Rudd Center has released a Web-based meal calculator for parents that includes popular offerings from various fast food chains:

Fast Food F.A.C.T.S. (Food Advertising to Children and Teens Score)

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says two-thirds of American adults and 15 percent of children are overweight or obese. In some states, the childhood obesity rate is above 30 percent. When do we stop this insanity? As a nation, we simply cannot continue our glutton. We cannot continue to eat fat, processed foods filled with sugar and chemicals.
