Unwanted lasting change
I hear from most of my clients that they want lasting change. In the past they have lost weight or made other changes in their life, only to gain the weight back. Easy come, easy go. But, changes don’t have to be temporary. With hypnosis and the Greatest Expression of You process, lasting change that you do want is possible and it is probable.
But, and here is the catch, you do have to continue using these tools everyday for the rest of your life.
If you are like most of us, you have had the experience of cramming for an exam, passing the exam and then quickly forgetting the information that you studied.
You already know that neurons that fire together wire together and that if you don’t use it, you lose it.
And, as you know, when you experience an upsetting or even traumatic event in life, you have strong emotions such as anger, hurt, fear or sadness. You develop limiting beliefs and decisions about yourself, about others and about life.
Anytime you are in similar situations, your thoughts and emotions start firing those neuropathways making the hardwiring even stronger. You don’t even need to have the actual occur, often you are just imagining it – you are having obsessive thoughts. Your body does not know the difference whether the event is actually happening, or you are imagining it. Either way your body is having the same chemical response.
This is how lasting change that you don’t want materializes. You keep reinforcing it.

Wanted lasting change
So how do you make wanted lasting change? You must study for the exam every day! People diet and make temporary change and then go back to old behaviors and wonder why they weigh more than they did before the diet. Lasting weight loss means making permanent lifestyle changes.
It is not enough to come to use the Greatest Expression of You process for a few weeks and then quit because you will soon forget the new way of being – just like cramming for an exam or going on a diet.
Just this past week, someone said to me that her Best Self somehow got lost in the chaos and stress of life. She’d been “too busy” thinking about the stress that she forgot to think about how her best self could manage the stressors.
The Greatest Expression of You has several steps: (1.) Begin your day by reading your Greatest Expression of You. (2.) Meditate on being your Best Self. (3.) Memorize Joy and truly feel it in your body. (4.) Mentally Rehearse being your Best Self throughout the day. And, (5. Use self-hypnosis during your day to remind yourself who you are becoming. Effectively using these steps will lead to lasting change.
Why is this mental practice so important? I’ve been reading The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science, by Norman Doidge. In the book, Doidge writes about Alvaro Pascual-Leone who is a Spanish Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School.
Pascual-Leone teaches that maintaining improvement and making a skill permanent require the slow steady work that forms new neural connections. According to Pascual-Leone, one reason you can change your brain simply by imagining is that, from a neuroscientific point of view, imagining an act and doing it are not as different as they sound. When you close your eyes and visualize a simple object, such as the letter a, the primary visual cortex lights up, just as it would if you were actually looking at the letter a. Brain scans show that in action and imagination many of the same parts of the brain are activated. That is why visualizing can improve performance.
When physical activity is involved such as in your golf swing, playing lacrosse, riding your bike or playing a piano, mental practice is an effective way to prepare for learning a physical skill with minimal physical practice.
Be your Best Self
The Greatest Expression of You process combines mental practice with emotion so that wanted lasting change occurs. What captures your attention controls your life. If your attention is focused on the woes in life, you create pain and suffering. When you focus your attention on being your best self, miracles happen!
