In my Seattle weight loss hypnosis and Bainbridge Island weight loss hypnosis offices I am often asked about nuts and weight gain and I frequently hear new weight loss clients talking about eating nuts as a healthy snack. Let me be clear, NUTS ARE NOT DIET FOOD. If weight loss is your goal, leave the nuts alone – even the raw unsalted almonds. I also hear from clients that want to lose weight that they can’t have nuts in the house or that they are in big trouble when they are at a party with nuts nearby. That’s where hypnosis for weight loss comes in. Slender For Life™ weight loss clients learn self hypnosis so that they can overcome their food cravings and lose weight – and keep it off!
Nuts & Weight Gain:
It’s Worse Than We ThoughtVegsource.com, August 19, 2012: Two scientific reviews didn’t show that nut consumption doesn’t lead to weight gain. In fact, they show just the opposite, that nuts cause weight gain.
The reviews also expose the worst side of the nut industry – their pathetic attempts to “buy” bogus science in order to sell nuts.
What did they do? They took a whole lot of cholesterol/nut studies to try to show nuts don’t cause weight gain. In these cholesterol/nut studies, whenever nut eaters’ weight went up, the researchers cut their calories, in order to make their weight go back down. These studies where weight was controlled are then presented as “proof” nuts don’t cause weight loss.

Can’t Lose the Weight? It Could Be the Nuts
1 ounce of almonds (about 17 almonds) contains 162 calories, 117 of them from fat. That’s 21% of your total recommended fat calories for the day – all in that 1 ounce. 10 years ago when I was running marathons and ran 50 miles or more each week, I ate 1 or 2 servings of raw unsalted almonds every day to keep from losing weight (never thought I would have that problem). When I cut back to 18 miles each week and continued with the same amount of almonds, the scale went up and the pants got tighter. Today, when I ride my bike 50 to 100 miles, a few almonds might be in my pocket as a snack. Otherwise, I just don’t eat them. Too many calories and too many calories from fat. As Dr. John McDougall would say, “The fat that you eat is the fat that you wear,” and, “fat from nuts when worn on the body looks no better than bacon fat.”

Funnily enough there is a lot of research that totally disputes this.
eg
A new study from the Harvard School of Public Health followed more than 120,000 people over the course of as many as 20 years, to see what they ate and how it affected their weight. Some of the findings are surprising, including these: Nuts and yogurt were most closely correlated with weight loss. And potatoes of any kind caused the most weight gain. Michele Norris talks with one of the authors of the study, Walter Willett from the Harvard School of Public Health.
This is just one of dozens of studies that show that nuts can aid weight loss that have no link to nut producers.
Nuts are highly nutritious and the fats are healthy. This fear of fat is really outdated. The term “essential” fats does mean that they are essential to health
