Bob Condor wrote today in the Seattle PI that Oprah has hypothyroidism which is an under-active thyroid.  Hypothyroidism is the most common thyroid disorder in the U. S. and predominately affects women.

Hypothyroid symptoms can include:

  1. Fatigue
  2. Weight Gain
  3. Feeling Cold
  4. Constipation
  5. Dry Skin
  6. Dry Hair or Hair Loss
  7. Depression
  8. Mental Confusion
  9. Slow Heart Rate
  10. Muscle Aches & Cramps
  11. Heavy Menstrual Flow
  12. High Cholesterol

It is important to note that mild hypothyroidism may not cause any of these symptoms in the early months of the condition.

I have used hypnotherapy with a number of clients regarding hypothyroidism and I have received feedback that there have been positive results. Hypothyroidism is on my “to do” list of research and I want to develop a protocol.

After reading about Oprah I found a great article on Dr. John McDougall’s website about hypothyroidism.
