Brian Williams led off NBC Nightly News on November 29, 2007, with a story by Tom Costello that the FDA is considering salt warning labels. The American Medical Association (AMA) has asked the government to consider salt warning labels. Most Americans are consuming 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt each day, more than double what we should be consuming – 3/4 of it coming from processed foods. Even chocolate can contain salt! A frozen meal can contain up to 110% of the total daily salt intake – in just one meal! Countries like Britton have required manufacturers to cut back on salt. Kellogg’s Special K contains 58% less salt.
