Today is part 6 of
Becoming the Greatest Expression of you
Self-hypnosis to remember who you are becoming
You have the power to change yourself. For the past five Sunday’s I have been writing about becoming the greatest expression of you. Today is the sixth step of this powerful process.
Since my first posts here at Hypnosis Health Info in 2007, I’ve frequently written about self-hypnosis. From my perspective, we are always in trance. You are never not in trance. Hypnosis is learning to take control of the trance that you are in. If you are experiencing stress and you automatically head to the cupboard for the crackers or Hershey bar, you are a stress eating trance.
Hypnosis is learning to take control of the trance that you are in. When you use hypnosis, you can learn to recognize those old thoughts, emotions and behaviors to acknowledge that there are stressors and that you have the
power of choice. Just because you experience stress does not mean you have to return to your old stress-coping behaviors.
I’ve often referred to self-hypnosis as Course Corrections. When you fly from Seattle to Phoenix, the pilot or auto pilot are constantly making course corrections. When you drive down the road, you constantly steer to keep your car between the lines. In Powerfully Creating a New Path, I compared self-hypnosis to glaciers cutting striations in rocks and as deer blazing a new trail.
Remind yourself of who you are becoming.
Over the past three years, I’ve referred to hypnosis as a way to fire new neurons and to remind yourself of who you are becoming. As I have previously discussed, neuroscience teaches us that neurons that fire together wire together. What that means is that if you are having the same old thoughts, the same old emotions and acting the same old way, neurons have hard-wired and that old way of being has become your identity – your personality. It is just what you do.
But, thanks to self-hypnosis you do have the power to change yourself. Neurons that fire together wire together. Using self-hypnosis, you do have the power to fire and wire new neurons, new thoughts, new emotions and new behavior.
So, you begin your day by reading the 2 or 3 sentences that describe being the Greatest Expression of You. Then you meditate on this and memorize being joyful. Next, mentally rehearse being joyful throughout the day as you go about your day. Give thanks for being the Greatest Expression of You. Throughout your day, use self-hypnosis to make your necessary course corrections and to remind yourself who it is you are becoming.
Next Sunday I will discuss the final step of this life-changing process, Taking Inventory.
