This is a continuation of the prologue of the 2nd edition of Becoming Slender For Life. I am still on vacation backpacking on the High Divide in the Olympic Mountains.

Prologue To The Second Edition (continued from yesterday)

It’s time for each of us to take personal responsibility for our health and wellness. To me, the logical place to start is with what we put in our mouth. Vote with your wallet. Stores and restaurants stock and serve what we purchase. Stop going to fast food restaurants, and stop buying processed foods in the grocery store. Shop from the perimeter, where the fresh foods are located. Start your own healthcare revolution by serving your family real food—food that looks like it was dug out of the earth, picked off a plant or bush or from a tree. When we consumers change, the food industry will adjust to our demands.

In Becoming Slender For Life I write that it’s really all about creating a new relationship with yourself and a new relationship with food. All too often I hear: “When I lose weight I will be happy” or “My life will be better” or “I will feel better about myself.” No— when you decide to be happy or create a better life or esteem yourself highly, then the weight will come off. Your weight does not dictate your emotions. Your emotions dictate your weight.

And there’s the rub. Those of us who have obsessed on food (or any other drug of choice) don’t want to feel. I still say us, even though it’s been 15 years now since I let go of the weight. To this day I have my moments of not wanting to feel the hurt, the pain, the sadness, the fear, the anger, the stress or the thoughts that I am not good enough. Of course going down that old path leads to more pain and suffering. When we don’t allow the pain, we also deny the love and the joy.

To be continued tomorrow……
