Immediate rewards such as a cup of tea are more useful than long-term rewards. Seeing yourself looking great a year from now at your ideal weight in your new bathing suit on a white sand Maui beach is a great long-term reward. But when the stuff is hitting the fan, that Snickers bar will win out over that fantasy of the beach every time.
