The Second Step of the Seven Steps to Permanent Weight Control is to use a starch-based eating strategy. And, yes, I do mean STARCH! While this is not new information, there certainly have been numerous new studies and books supporting the health and weight loss benefits of eating starch-based food. Dr. John McDougall’s new book, The Starch Solution, clearly details why and how starch-based food will help you lose weight and improve your health – even if you have diabetes. Second Step:
Use A Starch-based Eating Strategy

The healthiest source of calories are complex carbohydrates. This body fuel is burned up immediately. Fats, on the other hand, are usually turned into body fat. A medium size banana and one tablespoon of peanut butter each have about 100 calories. The banana however is 96 percent carbohydrate with almost no fat. The peanut butter is 72 percent fat and only 12 percent carbohydrate. When you make starch (potatoes, rice, corn, etc.) the center of your meals instead of beef, pork, chicken, turkey or fish, you begin a vital step in becoming slender and healthy for probably a much longer life.

If you make your larger meals from one third to one half starch and the rest of your plate is filled with delicious fresh vegetables and smaller amounts of fruit, then:
· You will not be hungry.
· You may eat as much as you want.
· You will have increased energy.
· You will release weight quickly and easily.

Should you have a dislike for any of the recommended foods, make sure you review the hypnotic suggestions at the end of Chapter Five for help and the section on Page 158. Sure, some of us are never going to enjoy cauliflower, and that’s fine—as long as there are plenty of other vegetables you are eating every day. Also refer back to the exercise on Page 103 in Chapter Four, which is very effective at changing food preferences.
