You may want to think again if you are using probiotics. Science Daily reports that, “Probiotic use can result in a significant accumulation of bacteria in the small intestine that can result in disorienting brain fogginess as well as rapid, significant belly bloating.”
I’ve long had concerns about probiotics. I’ve viewed it as another fad. in 2018, US consumers spent an estimated $2.4 billion on the supplements. From my own research, I’ve never been convinced of any benefits, I’ve never used them and I have a growing concern about their wide spread use (abuse).
When a client asks me about probiotics I respond by saying that it’s outside my scope of practice. I encourage people to do their research and talk to their professional healthcare practitioner. The only supplement that I take is B12 and I only eat whole plant-based food and as a result I have a healthy digestive system. I choose health and wellbeing over fad supplements.
If you are researching probiotics or other dietary supplements, remember that there is a plethora of misguided marketing information everywhere you look. The marketers make billions of dollars each year telling you why the new fad supplement of the day will make healthy. The truth is, most of them will only deplete your bank account.
