I have been a member of the National Weight Control Registry for a number of years. To be eligible for the research study you must have lost at least 30 pounds and maintained that weight loss for one year or more.
Based on members experiences, here are 10 practical, proven strategies that can work for you.
- Try, try again. Almost everyone in the Registry had tried to lose weight and failed many times before shedding the pounds for good.
- Don’t believe that a history of weight problems means you are destined to fail.
- Stick with a relatively small variety of foods.
- Make a permanent commitment to a new lifestyle.
- Watch less TV
- Don’t take diet breaks.
- Always eat breakfast.
- Devote one hour a day to exercise.
- Continue to monitor weight even after the goal is reached.
- Try like crazy to break the two-year mark.
