This has been a year of change, or what I now recognize as transition in my life. Some of this transition has been painful. Some of it has been frightening. And, some of this transition is exciting.

Sounds a lot like life, right?!

As someone who spends hour after hour and day after day facilitating changes that people want to make, one would think that this transition would be easy. Let me tell you – it isn’t!

“The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it.” Even though this maxim sounds like something you would hear in my office today, Marcus Aurelius (121 – 180) said it long ago.

Earlier this week, a client was talking about changes that she was making in her life. She said to change, you “do it by choice.” Those words rung so true.

You see, my wife and I decided early in 2017 that it was time to make a major change in our lives – that it was time to make our lives different. We chose to move from one phase of our lives to another. At the time of this decision, I had no idea as to the depth of “undergo transformation” I would experience.

Your Hypnosis Health Info Hypnotic Suggestion for today:

I find harmony in my life.

Musical modulation

As I have been processing this transition, I’ve been thinking about the definitions of “change” and “transition”. How are they different?

Merriam Webster defines change as transitive verb as, “to make different” and as an intransitive verb as, “to become different,” “to undergo transformation.”

Webster defines transition as 1) a: passage from one state, stage, subject, or place to another: change b: a movement, development, or evolution from one form, stage, or style to another and 2) a: a musical modulation b: a musical passage leading from one section of a piece to another.

As I read these definitions, I was drawn immediately to “musical modulation – a musical passage leading from one section of a piece to another.” I like to think of the transition that I am making as a musical modulation – a passage leading from one phase of my life to another.

The transformative change that we chose to make is all about reduction. However, Change is about growth. Change is all about mental, emotional and spiritual expansion.

Over these past months there have certainly been times when I resisted change. Times when I was definitely less than my best self. In some of these moments I was very aware that I didn’t even want to be my best self!

In these moments, I allowed myself to experience what I was thinking and feeling. Eventually I was able use The Greatest Expression of You process and find equanimity.

The Greatest Expression of You is all about transition. It is about change. It’s all about unlearning certain traits that we’ve memorized and relearning new states. It is about being purposeful in creating your future to be greater than your past.

Of course the hardest part is not making the same old habitual choices again.

How many times each day do you repeat the same old behavior, repeat the same old thought, repeat the same old emotional experience that you have lived by for years?

Does this old script actually serve you today? Is it getting you what you want? Or, are you just continuing to relive the past?

With the Greatest Expression of You process you get to live a whole new script based on now. You get to break the habit of your old self and reinvent a new self. You purposefully choose to no longer think, act or feel in predictable ways. You memorize new emotional states and let go of the old emotional states that no longer serve you.

While there certainly have been some discordant notes along the way, my hope, my prayer is that one day I’ll look back on this year and find the harmony in this modulation in the symphony of my life.

I hope and pray that you too will find harmony in your life.
