I shot this photo at Ross Lake – it was in the 90’s that day and the glacial water was refreshing!

So how much water should you drink? There is a lot of mixed information out there about the importance of water. Recent studies have said not to worry – you are getting enough and many other studies would tell you that the chances are that you are dehydrated right now – in fact it’s about a 75% chance that you are dehydrated right now.

60% to 70% of your body weight is water and of all the nutrients that we need, water is the most important. When you don’t consume enough water, virtually every function that your body performs is put at risk.

Oprah’s Bob Greene in his book, Get With the Program! says that the benefits of drinking water are:

  • Your metabolism functions better when you’re fully hydrated.
  • Your digestion is improved when you drink enough water.
  • Water fills you up.
  • When you’re dehydrated, you eat more.
  • Your exercise is much more effective if you’re fully hydrated.
  • The more active you are, the fitter you become and the more water you need.

Drink at least 8 eight-ounce glasses of water each day. Coffee, soda, sparkling water do not count. Keep water with you at all times. Have a bottle of water on your desk, next to your chair in the TV room, in your car. Carry water with you when you go for a walk or you are out working in the yard. (I must admit that I often have to wander around the yard looking for where I last left my water bottle).

Are you someone who does not enjoy drinking water? I hear that frequently, you are not alone. Frequently, with only one or two sessions of hypnosis, clients are reporting a desire for drinking water and find that one of the new ways that they deal with stress is to take a drink of cool, velvety refreshing water. (If you don’t like cold water, then drink it at room temperature or drink it hot.) Using self hypnosis you can create a healthy desire for water. There is even a hypnotherapy Power Minute for increasing your desire for water. Power Minutes are great ways to use self hypnosis.
