The Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine (PCRM) has started a great new series on its Food For Life TV.  In this show, The New Four Food Groups: A Focus on Fruit, they make a fruit smoothie called Tropical Freeze. There many benefits to eating fruit.

Fruit is:

  • High in fiber
  • Low glycemic index
  • Good source of antioxidants
  • Easy snack

Watch for more shows from Food For Life TV here on Hypnosis Health Info. My own thoughts on this is that fruit is an excellent snack throughout the day and it is an excellent desert. I love a sweet juicy apple after dinner. And, one of my special treats is to put frozen blueberries in a bowl and pour just enough rice milk in so that the tops of the blueberries barely show. I let it set for 2 or 3 minutes and the berries freeze the rice milk. This is a delightful treat!

In this video they mentioned dried fruit. I always urge caution when eating dried fruit. Yes, in the winter, I am apt to have a few raisins in my oatmeal and raisins are a great snack on a 50 to 100 mile bike ride or a 90 minute spin class, but don’t sit down with a bag of dried apricots or other dried food and mindlessly eat.

Be sure to pay attention to the serving size, it was about 1 cup – it wasn’t the whole blender full. They also made a good point about blending the fruit (oranges) rather than juicing them to retain the fiber.

Finally, I caution more and more against the use of soy milk. (Be sure to pay attention to the fat content in soy products).  Dr. John McDougall has an interesting article for you titled Soy – Food, Wonder Drug, or Poison? When clients tell me that they are experiencing excessive gas and bloating, I tell them to stop using soy products and to switch to rice milk. Be careful also with almond milk, oat milk and other non-dairy products. They seem to have more fat and sugar than does rice milk.
