Do you think that foods labeled “low fat” will help you lose weight? Actually, they may do the opposite. According to recent research, low-fat labels prompt people to overindulge in three different ways.

  1. People ate 28 percent more M&M’s when they were labeled “low fat,” not “regular,” and overweight people consumed nearly 50 percent more calories. It really is all about the calories.
  2. People believe that an appropriate serving size for low-fat food was 25 percent larger than the full-fat version. Pay attention to your body and stop eating when you have enough fuel in your stomach. Watch Am I Hungry?.
  3. When people saw low-fat labels on granola, the guilt factor went away. You really do need to use common sense.

Bottom line – don’t believe the “low-fat” labels. They are meaningless. You should focus your eating on real food, fruit, vegeables and whole grains that still look like they were dug out of the earth, picked off a plant or bush or out of a tree. If man has sliced and diced it, added words to it that you cannot pronounce and put it in a package with a label, then don’t buy it and don’t eat it!
