Weight loss hypnosis can be a great way for overweight teens to lose weight and improve their health. In May, 2008, the CDC reported that 32 percent of U.S. children fit the definition of being overweight, 16 percent were obese and 11 percent were extremely obese. Today, due to obesity, teens and young children are being diagnosed with diseases that were once thought to be reserved for the elderly. For many of these overweight kids, their diets consist of fast food, chips, soda and other unhealthy items. There is hope: Teens are starting to take healthy eating seriously. According to an article in the Seattle PI by Mike Stobbe of THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, young vegetarians are more visible and have more options. Today, about 367,000 kids are vegetarians according to a recent study that provides the government’s first estimate of how many children avoid meat. That’s about 1 in 200. Other surveys suggest the rate could be four to six times that among older teens who have more control over what they eat than young children do.
Anecdotally, adolescent vegetarianism seems to be rising, thanks in part to YouTube animal slaughter videos that shock the developing sensibilities of many U.S. children. But there isn’t enough long-term data to prove that, according to government researchers.
Eating vegetarian can be very healthy — nutritionists often push kids to eat more fruits and vegetables, of course. Children, even athletes, can get all of their nutritional requirements (even protein and calcium) from vegetables, fruit and whole grains.
