So you think olive oil is a good fat? WRONG! Your body makes almost all the fats it needs with two exceptions: linoleic and alphalinoleic fatty acids, which are amply sourced by a variety of plant foods. It serves no purpose whatsoever to add more fat to the ready-made fat.
Olive oil is a highly concentrated, refined fat that comes without any nutrition. All added oils, even olive oil, offer one thing: calories. Those calories come with a fat price tag – more fat added to your body! If you are trying to diet, you don’t need “good fat” that is in olive oil.
Most of us do not have a fat deficiency. In fact, the problem is too much fat! As Dr. John McDougall would say, “olive oil when worn in excess on the body looks no better than bacon fat.”
And do you really think that you need olive oil to make food taste better? Have you ever put a tablespoon of olive oil in your mouth? It doesn’t taste good! There are so many ways that you can enhance the natural flavors of foods without adding fat.
I’m often asked about what do I use for a salad dressing: I have a collection of vinegars (blood orange, raspberry, peach, mango chili, chardonnay …) I pick one and drizzle the vinegar on my salad. It’s fresh, light and I don’t need fat to make it stick to the lettuce!
