Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, December 16, 2013: Heavier people have worse kidney health, compared with people of normal weight, according to a new study published by the National Kidney Foundation. Researchers followed 2,839 young adults with normal kidney function and found that overweight individuals were more likely to have reduced kidney function over the 10 years of follow-up. At the start of the study, participants who fell into higher weight categories also had more diabetes and higher cholesterol, blood pressure, and c-reactive protein (a measure of inflammation and a predictor of kidney disease) levels.
