Roger Moore
Certified Counselor

Some of you have asked about the counseling part of Roger Moore’s Counseling & Hypnotherapy LLC. I haven’t written very much about my counseling experience, but it is an important component of who I am and my professional experience.

Did you know that I am a Certified Counselor in the State of Washington with a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and that I have more than 40 years’ experience in counseling individuals, couples and families?

My first exposure to counseling was in high school in the 1960’s as I worked an all-night crisis hotline at Sunshine House in Colorado Springs.

In the 1970’s, I received my BA in Criminal Justice Studies and was in a live-in houseparent with 12 children who had developmental disabilities. I helped lead the organization as it grew and opened new homes for both children and adults and a day program that exists to this day. My duties included both administrative and individual and family counseling.

During this time I became certified as a drug and alcohol counselor, studied Transactional Analysis, Adlerian Theory and other counseling techniques.

On Maui I worked with children and adults with special needs and their families and decided that it was time for me to continue my counseling education. I started graduate school in California to obtain my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

While in grad school I had the honor to be Vice President for Orange and San Diego Counties at Lutheran Social Services of Southern California. One of my many duties was to create an agency-wide counseling program with offices throughout the region.

In late 1996, we moved to Washington and in January 1997, I began my counseling and hypnosis practices on Bainbridge Island and in the Medical Dental Building in Seattle.

For the past 19 years it has been my honor to coach, guide, teach and sometime nudge people to discover the resources within themselves that allow them to create a future that is greater than their past.

I consider myself a lifelong learner. I read my first hypnosis book in junior high and took my first Hypnosis Certification course in 1996. I’ve continued to study counseling techniques, hypnosis, mindfulness, neuroplasticity, nutrition, exercise, and most any health and wellness research that I can find.

While most of my practice today is as a health care support hypnotherapist, I continue to offer individual and relationship counseling. On occasion, I provide family counseling to families for weight loss or for living with an illness such as cancer.

I truly believe that each of us are born with the resources that we need for this lifetime. My job as your tour guide is to help you to discover and use your resources to be your best self.

Your journey towards wholeness begins here…
