I’ve said for years that oatmeal is the food of the gods! Over the years I’ve convinced myself that I should vary my breakfast and try something different. The few times I’ve done that, I cooked oatmeal for lunch. I just have to have my oatmeal!
Prior to being introduced to weight loss hypnosis, I’d make 3 & 4 egg omelets filled with a ton of cheese and bacon. Of course then I weighed 260 pounds, had high blood pressure and was borderline diabetic. There are so many possibilities for a good hearty whole grain breakfast, but I do love my oatmeal. My oatmeal isn’t Quaker and it doesn’t look like wallpaper paste. I mix a variety of grains together that I buy in the bulk food sections of our store: 7 grain cereal, thick cut oats, rolled oats, oat groats, rye flakes, hard wheat berries, soft wheat berries, quinoa, barley, amaranth and anything else that looks interesting. I mix a several week supply all together and keep a small amount in the cupboard. It takes about 20 minutes to cook and the result is that I have a bowl of multi-texture with a variety rich flavors of warm goodness. I mix in a small amount of fresh fruit with a titch of rice milk and my day is off to a perfect start!
When I’m traveling or on the ferry and I can’t have my slow cooked oatmeal, I use Dr. McDougall’s Oatmeal Cups Made With Organic Whole Grain Oatmeal. It comes in a tub so all I have to do as add hot water from the coffee maker. Theses instant oats are thick cut and it’s delicious!
